Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We are here to answer! If you don’t see your question here, you can get a Free Consultation.

  • 1. Can I apply without an ALES/GRE/TOEFL (We also accept YDS/e-YDS/ YOKDIL)?
Yes, you can submit your application to the system without your Graduate Record Examination (GRE for foreign applicants) or ALES (Akademik Lisansüstü Eğitim Sınavı-for native applicants) and language scores. You will be able to leave these spaces empty if your scores are not available at the time of application but please do indicate the date you are scheduled to take the exam. You must make sure to register for the earliest exam available. You need to upload your scores to the online application system as soon as they are announced. In exceptional cases, PhD programs may offer conditional admissions to applicants who are not able to submit their GRE scores by the application deadline but provide a strong application package (with a high GPA, strong letters of recommendation, being graduated from a highly-regarded institution, publication record or other academic merits). All candidates will be required to present their GRE scores in order to receive full admission to their respective programs.
  • 2. How many recommendations do I need and who should ask to be my recommenders?
Applicants need 2 (two) for MA; and 3 (three) for PhD recommendations from faculty or others qualified to evaluate your potential for graduate study. At least one evaluation and letter should be from a faculty member at the last school you attended as a full-time student (unless you have been out of school for more than five years). Substitutions for faculty recommendations may include work associates or others who can comment on your academic potential for graduate work.
  • 3. What is YOKDIL and YDS?
YÖKDİL and YDS are national “English Proficiency Exams”.
  • 4. Entry qualifications and Eligibility?
Important Notes • If you have one of the eligible test scores or diplomas, but with scores below our minimum criteria, you will not be offered admission. • You can apply with your predicted IB or A-level scores issued by your school. • All standardized test scores (e.g., SAT, ACT, MCAT, AP, EGE, ENT, CBSE, CISCE, ATAR, …) are valid for 2 years. • There is no time limitation on eligible diploma grades. • If your qualification allows for online verification, you must select Koç University as one of the score recipients. Otherwise, it will not be accepted as valid. • The minimum scores in the eligible entry qualifications list must be used as a guide only, and therefore, meeting them will not automatically guarantee an offer. • Applicants may be asked to provide additional qualifications and documents or sit for interviews if needed. • Please check carefully the document here if you have TRNC citizenship or acquired TC citizenship by birth. You are advised to refer to our Registrar’s website for further guidance on your eligibility to apply as an international student. • If the documents or information required for registration are determined to be false or fraudulent, the student’s relationship with the University will be terminated, and the student’s registration will be canceled. In this case, the tuition fee paid is not refundable. Relevant students cannot request the continuation of their registration by providing new documents.
  • 5. Do students receive financial support?
Tuition waiver plus 28.000 TL monthly stipend. Free Dormitory with limited capacity. All students receive private health insurance and meal cards.
